PRE-ANNOUNCEMENT POSTDOCTORAL POSITION & STUDENTSHIP GRANT (FPI-MEC) 
INSTITUTO DE ASTROFISICA
DE CANARIAS (IAC) "High spatial resolution studies of the central parsec 
region of galaxies AGN - IAC" PROJECT

The IAC <http://www.iac.es/>(Tenerife, Spain) will open two positions in 
the coming months, a postdoctoral contract and a studentship grant
(open by the Spanish MECF for the IAC Project), to work within the group 
of active galactic nuclei (AGN) at this institute.

A main project of the group focuses on high spatial resolution studies 
of the nuclear region of the nearest galaxies down to scales of few 
parsecs.
*These studies relay on adaptive optics and interferometric observations 
which are routinely providing sub-arc second resolution in the near to mid
IR range. The studies are further complemented with information from 
radio interferometry and X-rays.**

Potential applicants with special interest in the topic, and either 
theoretical or observational background, are encouraged to send letters 
of interest
to the address below. A background on the field of radio and / or IR 
interferometry would be an asset.

Other research interests in the AGN group of the IAC include the physics 
of jets and hot-spots in radio galaxies, spectropolarimetry, and the 
scientific
planning for the exploitation of the first GTC-10m 
adaptive-optics-assisted 3D spectrograph, FRIDA, at La Palma Observatory.

Depending on candidate’s background and experience, as postdoctoral 
researcher the selected candidate is expected to lead the radio and IR
interferometric programs on active galaxies conducted at the group.

As studenship researcher, the candidate for the FPI Grant which call 
will be open by the Spanish MEC asociated to the project, will focus his 
or her
PhD thesis on the study of the nuclear region of some of the nearest 
active galaxies, for which subarcsec resolution data in the 1 to 20 um 
range havebeen
collected at the VLT (Very Large Telescope) Observatory.
