Galaxy clusters are ideal tracers of the large-scale matter
distribution and the growth of cosmic structures in the Universe.
X-ray observations provide an efficient way of detecting and
characterizing galaxy clusters. In the talk I will illustrate
how X-ray cluster surveys can be used for cosmological studies. A
prerequisit for the use of clusters as cosmological probes is
a good understanding of the statistics of galaxy cluster structure
and of observational parameters that allow good estimates of
the cluster mass. I will thus discuss our efforts in understanding
these properties of the galaxy cluster population. The upcoming
eROSITA All-Sky X-ray Survey has X-ray galaxy cluster cosmology as
one of its main science drivers. I will give a brief overview
of the prospects of this project.
