Population Gradients in Dwarf Galaxies of the Local Group (Sebastian Hidalgo, Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias)

— archivado en:

I present the star formation history (SFH) as a function of the galactocentric radius for a sample of dwarf galaxies of the Local Group observed using the ACS on board the HST. The SFHs have been derived from the deepest color-magnitude diagrams obtained to date for these galaxies. I will discuss the main properties of the structure of dwarf galaxies with the aim to discern how they were formed. For such purpose, age and metallicity gradients, cumulative mass as a function of radius, and scale lengths of the star density profile as a function of time have been obtained. The results show that these parameters decrease smoothly with radius and/or time. We can use the derived gradients to characterize the morphological type of these galaxies.
