Star Formation, Near and Far (Neal Evans, The University of Texas at Austin)

I will discuss new developments in large-scale star formation from both a
Galactic and extragalactic perspective, based on a review article
coauthored with Rob Kennicutt. Tracers of gas and star formation
will be discussed, along with caveats on their use. Relations
between gas and star formation (e.g., Kennicutt-Schmidt laws)
will be considered. Finally, I will offer some speculations on
an emerging synthesis and directions for future research.
