The idea of using the detached eclipsing binaries as standard candles is
now over 100 years old, but only recently we are able to make it come
true. It requires usage of precise stellar evolution models and
isochrones, as well as high-quality photometric measurements. It is
however still not straight-forward and many observational problems are
present. Nevertheless the VVV and OGLE date we have now seem to be enough
to derive reliable and precise distances (but not only) to a large number
(~10^3 - 10^4) of systems, reaching even beyond the Bulge.
I will present my first attempts to do this work for a sample of few
hundred systems seen in the direction of the Bulge. I will discuss the
method, problems, first results, and possibilities for the future.
