Observing blocks should be prepared with anticipation using the p2ls web intsoftware (using the PI's account, password, and PID), with finding charts attached and a README. If service mode will be performed for you, pay attention to the following:
Finding charts: use 5 x 5 arcmin for FEROS, 10 x 10 arcmin for GROND and 30 x 30 arcmin for WFI. Indicate scale, orientation, expected position of the target. Try to get dark stars on white sky (printer-friendly).
Observing blocks: indicate user priority, seeing, Moon and airmass constraints, and transparency (photometric, clear, thin cirrus, thick cirrus) inside the OB, it makes it easier in service. The lower the priority and the harder the constraints, the less likely is execution!
README: indicate all time constraints, general info on conditions expected.
Run delegation for service/queue observing
This mainly concerns MPIA observers. Once OBs are prepared, the material of the run should be delegated to the Operation Team following these steps
Check that the run appears under the Phase 2 title
Specifics for the different programme types
MPIA observers
Even visitors may have significant amount of service observing made for them, in particular in case of heavy losses. The two first sections of this page should be read and followed with care.
Chilean observers
Observation in visitor mode, but sometimes time loss can be compensated in service mode.
Brazilian observers
Observation in visitor mode is normally used.
Opticon observers
Observation in visitor mode only.
MPE observers
Observations in visitor and service mode. For the latter mode, it should coordinated with the support team.
