Here you can download an IDL script I made (based on the script that comes with the public version of GADGET-2) that reads the outputs of GADGET. The advantage is that gives you the particles information arranged in a structure, and contains information the "standard" script does not, like the particle type for example.

Here you can find a script (in development) that generates a distribution of particles with a polytropic profile. It uses the particle stretching technique from an uniform sphere to match a given polytropic density profile.
